The other day one of my friends, aged in her early forties, told me how drab and 'blah' she felt. She put her hand up to her face and ran it across her cheeks – “I feel so old” she said sadly.

“You wear a lot of black", I said, running my eyes over her black top and trousers.

“It’s easy, I don’t have to think about it,” she said glumly.
